Moringa is a plant that has taken the world by storm in recent years. People have started taking moringa supplements for all sorts of reasons – to lose weight, to get more energy, and to improve their health. But can you benefit from taking moringa every day? Is it safe to be eating that much Moringa?
This article will look at moringa’s health benefits and discuss whether it is a good idea to take moringa supplements daily.
Is it safe to take moringa every day?
The Moringa tree is a nutrient-rich plant that has been used for centuries in folk medicine.
Recently, moringa has seen a surge in popularity as a dietary supplement; eating the leaves and taking moringa leaf powder with people claiming that it can boost energy levels, improve digestion, and even help to fight depression.
But is it safe to take moringa every day?
There is no doubt that moringa is packed with nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Studies have shown that moringa can help to improve blood sugar control, lower cholesterol levels, and protect against inflammation.
Moreover, some evidence suggests that moringa can help boost cognitive function and improve mental well-being.
While it’s hard to call something “safe,” we did a ton of research and found many studies where humans have taken Moringa long-term under doctor supervision.
This study had humans consuming Moringa Oliefera for a week to see its effects on anxiety in humans.
This study used Moringa Oleifera leaf extract on humans by applying a topical cream. This cream was applied to the face region for three months.
Researchers have used powdered moringa leaves in just about every human study conducted on the effects of Moringa.
Each of these studies focused on different doses. In one study, participants were given a single dose of 50 grams [Source].
In another study, participants were given a daily dose of 8 grams over a period of 40 days [Source].
Other studies continue along this vein: lower doses (typically between 4 and 8 grams) are given over several weeks, and larger doses are given once.
Participants reported no negative side effects. In fact, the only side effects were positive: lowered cholesterol and blood sugar.
A ton more studies show the safety levels of long-term use of Moringa, but these studies were done on rats and not humans.

While we’ve personally used Moringa for long lengths of time, if you’re considering taking moringa supplements, talk to your doctor first.
Are there any side effects of taking moringa every day?
While moringa is generally safe to consume, there are a few side effects to be aware of.
1.) Moringa may lower blood sugar levels, so people with diabetes should monitor their blood sugar closely if they take moringa supplements.
2.) Moringa can thin the blood, so people who take blood thinners or have bleeding disorders should avoid taking it.
3.) Moringa may increase the risk of bleeding during childbirth, so pregnant women should avoid taking it.
4.) Moringa may interfere with the effectiveness of certain medications, so people taking medication should speak to their doctor before taking moringa supplements.
5.) Some people may experience an allergic reaction to moringa, so it is important to test a small amount before consuming it in large quantities.
6.) Because moringa contains high levels of vitamins and minerals, taking too much can lead to problems such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Therefore, it is important to speak to a doctor before taking large doses of moringa.
How much moringa is safe to take daily?
I will have to do the math. You can just follow along.
A 2009 study found that Moringa aqueous leaf extract doses were safe at 2000 mg/kg [Source].
Now, an aqueous leaf extract isn’t going to have an identical chemical profile to the leaf powder we’ve seen in most human studies.
This first math problem is just a thought experiment, so let’s use that for now.
We’ll start with 2000 mg/kg. 2000 milligrams is the same thing as 2 grams; I’ll use that for simplicity.
Let’s assume we’re talking about a smaller individual: someone who weighs 54 kg (or just under 120 pounds). That person could consume 108 grams of Moringa without suffering any negative side effects.
The average 0-sized capsule holds about half a gram of powder.
In other words, if you weigh 120 pounds, you could eat 216 capsules of Moringa powder at once and still be okay.
Please don’t eat 216 capsules of anything at a time. Generally, eating 216 of anything in a single sitting is probably a bad idea.
Even if you weigh 240 pounds and could theoretically eat 432 capsules while still being fine, please don’t eat 216! Don’t do it!
As I said before, the aqueous leaf extract will not have the same properties as fresh, dry, or powdered leaves.
Also, none of the studies above force-fed its participants 216 Moringa powder capsules.
Another also: it’s always better to start with a smaller dose.
The smallest dose I could find in a study was 4.6 grams. In a 2010 study on patients with Type-2 diabetes, Nambiar et al. [Source] gave their treatment group a daily dose of 4.6 grams over a period of 50 days.
The patients reported a decrease in total plasma cholesterol and an increase in HDL, all without any adverse side effects. But that’s not what we’re paying attention to!
We’re paying attention to the dose.
4.6 grams. In other words, each participant took enough Moringa to fill 9 capsules daily.
That was the smallest dose I could find. In other studies, researchers gave participants daily doses of 7 grams (14 capsules), 8 grams (16 capsules), or a one-time dose of 50 grams (a whopping 100 0-sized capsules).
Most of you will probably not take 9 Moringa powder capsules a day.
You don’t need to. But you could.
Every human research study on the effects of Moringa has said that doing so would be safe.
Conclusion: Don’t shovel moringa into your mouth by the bowlful. Otherwise, you’ll be fine.

Is it safe to eat moringa seeds every day?
Moringa seeds are safe to eat daily and are a good source of nutrients.

As a warning, the seeds do act as a laxative.
Be very careful when incorporating these into your diet for the first time.
It could make for some emergency bathroom trips.

I would suggest starting with a small amount and gradually increasing it until you find what feels right.
